Helpful Hints As You
Prepare For Your Portrait Session
Just a few suggestions that will help
to make your portraits the best they can be!
Solid clothing vs patterns tends to be less distracting for the eye when viewing a portrait.
Dressing your group/family in the same color scheme of simple, muted colors, or flattering pastel colors or earth tones, will coordinate well together. Extra bold, neon or bright colors can sometimes clash with the scenic natural backgrounds of wherever the outdoor session is being held.
Not all scenic locations where clients want portraits taken offer public restrooms or places to change clothing during the session, so please plan accordingly.
Think simple and less is more with jewelry and make-up.
Try to remember during the portrait session to brush hair out of your face, as large strands of out of place hair across the face often can’t be fully corrected with editing software.
If you’d like portraits of young children, it is very helpful to let your photographer know things that work well to keep your little one happy and smiling. Do they have a favorite toy? A favorite sound? A visual such as a light up toy that makes them smile? A favorite soft texture or comfort item? A favorite treat they eat that motivates them? Also please let your photographer know things to avoid that your young child doesn’t like, things that cause the child anxiety or any relevant pieces of information about your child’s personality. It is best to schedule portrait sessions with young children during the times of day when the child is rested, fed and most likely to be content!
Please know you are always welcome to let your photographer know if you have any preferences as to how you are photographed (i.e. a side you prefer is more emphasized in the photographs, not preferring full body portraits, if you wear glasses, if you don't like black and white portraits, etc.)
